The German-language dance track explores the very current conflict between “boomer employers” and young people over their attitudes toward work.
In the first verse, an older manager complains about the younger generation. In the second and third verses — and in the chorus — a young woman and a young man respond (for example: “Performers only pay alimony, we don’t believe in pensions anymore…” or “Green jobs and social justice — those are our ideals.”).
The chorus is deliberately provocative:
“Let’s dance the world back into balance — only good work or none at all!”
Musically, the song sits somewhere between pop and dance, ultimately building into a driving house beat that turns the young generation’s perspective into something close to a protest anthem.
The lyrics, concept, song structure and parts of the composition are mine. However, to avoid this becoming just a 50-year-old writing a song about youth, the track was produced by two 23-year-old Viennese producers, Sonus (Benedikt Meschik and Max Mc Manus). They contributed substantial original elements to the composition — making it a true collaborative work.
The vocals are spoken and sung by four different performers:
A Radio Edit was released as well — in this version, the track opens with the younger generation’s response.
The cover artwork was created and spray-painted by graphic designer Jasmin Stahl at Vienna’s Danube Canal.
